Tutors and Volunteers

1:1 literacy support is provided by trained Volunteer Literacy Tutors. We generally have a panel of up to 20 trained volunteers who may be called upon to provide support as the need arises.
Training for Volunteer Literacy Tutors is held on a when required basis. The training programme is 37.5 hours in duration and is held during evening times and Saturdays. Candidates must be available to attend all training sessions.
After training, volunteers work for two hours once a week with an adult student who needs to improve his /her reading, writing, spelling and /or maths skills. Tuition takes place in one of our centres, either morning or afternoon, or in the CDETB Adult Education Centre as part of the evening adult education programme from 7.00pm to 9.00pm on Mondays or Tuesdays.
We currently have a full panel of Volunteer Literacy Tutors however, if you are interested in joining the panel with this Scheme at a later date, please leave your name and contact details either on our phone message service or email admin@barws.ie.
